Ecommerce website platform Shopify continues to grow, year over year, reporting $6.3B in merchant sales over just the Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend (2021). If you have yet to start selling online or you want to upgrade an existing ecommerce site, Shopify is an excellent choice to get up and running.
Setting up shop
The process is similar to that of the Website design-build, beginning with an interview and following through to launch. Your shop is a website, in and of itself, and we could consider rebuilding your current website around ecommerce so all your content and products are in one place. If you already have an online store on a platform other than Shopify, we can work with you to export your product and customer data so we can import into the new shop.
Shopify provides the platform and manages a marketplace of apps, many of which are created and supported by third-party developers, that extend the functionality. We may recommend installing apps to enhance shipping, customer service, reviews, and/or other capabilities. Some of those apps will incur an added charge, above the monthly fee for your selected subscription plan. Charges for any and all apps will be bundled and invoiced directly by Shopify.
New shop
You need not start the free trial. SMBworks can open a development store on your behalf, via our Partners account, which will give us more than the 14 days for the design-build process before you need to select a subscription plan. Prior to launch, you will have password access to review progress at your convenience, and at each project status update.
When ready to open the shop, we will initiate the ownership transfer process to a designated staff member. At that point, the staff member will select a monthly plan to assume ownership and open the store. For ongoing support, we can designate SMBworks a collaborator, which does not count against your limit of owner/staff accounts.

In a twist, the Matthews Paint print portal uses the Shopify platform to manage an inventory of marketing, support, and training collateral. Personnel, as customers, may order materials shipped to trade shows or to customers.

Presently, we prefer to specialize in Shopify. With enough demand, that may change. As a disclosure: Although it isn't our main reason to participate in the Shopify Partners program, SMBworks earns a commission on clients' subscriptions to the monthly plan.
